The exercise was helpful and insightful. In other words, I felt that I was able to pick up on the main message of my essay and the parts that needed to be fixed in order to make my essay strong. The color coding also helped me realize that my writing had several summarizing moments and was worded in a dry narrative form that made it seem like I was observing something happening. The insights that it provided was helping me organize my writing and keep note of whether or not I followed the assigned task. I also learned about the format that makes a narrative strong which involves including rhetorical devices that are more obvious and aside from crediting myself at times there should be dialogue and it should appeal to the reader’s senses. The main thing I will revise for my final draft is I will make my introduction shorter and more engaging. I will also add more descriptive language so the reader can imagine the setting of the memories that connected me with my chosen fairytale. For my next draft I will also fix my grammatical errors and remove sentences that are too much for the reader as well as not very significant to the main message of my narrative. In addition, I will make sure my narrative is thoughtfully written, meaning that it seems like I am telling a compelling narrative story to a general audience and possibly engaging like a fairytale. One thing I want to work on for my next assignment is knowing when a sentence is too long and if it can be shortened. I’ve noticed that a lot of times with my writing I have a lot to say but they could be summarized in a shorter manner. Another thing I want to work on is repetition, I want to make sure that my writing doesn’t bore the reader and is simply just the same thing reworded differently when you continue reading a particular paragraph bonded by a thesis. One last thing I would like to work on for my next assignment is to make sure that I am speaking more to the audience in my narrative and I could also be more descriptive about the personality of a character from my chosen fairytale story.
